Feel the Berm

Author: Kailey Dowling

Along with Lamar School’s newly renovated football field in 2019, the soon to be memory-filled berm was put in place. The berm is an elevated area of grass behind the left field goal made for a tailgating spot for Friday night lights. Families are able to buy spots on the berm where they can set up tents, bring food, and have their own space to watch the game.

Unfortunately with the outbreak of Covid-19 in 2020, the berm was not able to host families for tailgating for the following two football seasons. However, this year Lamar families are able to get back into tailgating, and the berm is back better than ever.

Not only does the berm allow people to have a special place to watch the football game, but it also provides a certain nostalgia for people. It brings Friday night lights to life and brings friends and family together. As Mrs. Ballou said in an interview for The Meridian Star, “It will be positive for players and the fans.” The berm also hosts the bonfire during homecoming week when the bonfire king is announced.

Football games at Lamar school would not be the same without the berm. It allows people to connect more while watching the game and brings a feeling of joy to everyone. Come out and feel the berm!
