Kick Cancer!
Beta Club’s motto is Let Us Lead by Serving Others. As Senior and Junior Presidents of Lamar School’s Beta Club, Josie Hanegan and I had the privilege of organizing the club’s first fundraiser of the year to uphold our motto. We coordinated to collect money for a donation to the Anderson Regional Cancer Center in memory of Jamie Kelly. Mrs. Kelly was beloved by her students at Poplar Springs and Lamar and was an inspiration to everyone who was blessed to know her.
During the school week of the last home football game, we coined the phrase ‘Kick Cancer’ and collected around $2,600 in our pink collection boots from the elementary, middle, and high schools. At the game, Josie and I added the money that we raised during the game to the weekly total. We then went onto the field along with Mr. Kelly and presented a check to the Cancer Center physicians. Our grand total was $3,656.23!
The money that we donated goes to the Patient Benevolence Fund which provides wigs, hats, and even prosthetic limbs to patients. The fund also provides support to the families of the patients. So many families will benefit from our contribution, so I would like to extend a special thank you to everyone who donated!
