Lighting Up the Holidays

Author: Rachel Mason

Every year around Christmas, the Mason residence lights up the street with Christmas cheer. Commonly called the “dancing lights,” this one-of-a-kind light show has been running since 2009 and is a family favorite around the holidays. My dad, Dr. John Lawrence Mason Jr., uses one computer to run the entire show and has different sequences for each song. With only 3 days of setup, this show runs every night in December from 5:30 until 10:00 PM. You can even connect to a radio station that is synchronized with the music and lights, so you don’t even have to roll down your window to enjoy them. Each year, new songs and new lights create a different experience for all ages. Rainy weather may stop them sometimes, but it never dulls the Christmas spirit. You can always find at least a few parked cars every night, and sometimes children dancing in the street. Sometimes, I even find myself parked in front of my own house, just enjoying the Christmas spirit.
