Groundhog Day
Author: Rachel Mason
Groundhog day has been an anticipated holiday by many throughout the years. On a certain day in February, a groundhog comes out of its burrow to predict the weather for the next six weeks. If this small creature sees his shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter. If there is no shadow, an early spring is expected. What makes this tiny meteorologist so special? The first official Groundhog Day occurred on February 2, 1887, in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, and still happens on February 2nd each year.
While this is still a popular tradition, it is unsure if this is an accurate reading or not. Since the outcome has a 50/50 chance, there is no way to tell if the groundhog really knows his weather. What do you think the outcome will be this year?
