Alumna Spotlight: Lilly Collins CO’ 2021

Author: Georgia Collins

As of right now, my sister, Lily Collins is sitting in the airport getting ready to board her flight to London. This exciting moment solely came from hard work and determination. Lily transferred to Lamar in 2016 searching for the ability to take advanced classes that Lamar offered. Lamar was a huge wake up call to her but she grew tremendously. She became involved in school activities and out-of-school activities, such as the cheerleading team, founded the girls golf team, Beta Club, Jane Austen book club, Student Council, Dusty Social Service Club, Junior Auxiliary Crown Club, Girls Scouts of America gold award scholar, and more. Collins graduated from Lamar in May of 2021 and decided to further her education at the University of Southern Mississippi with a major of Political Science Pre-Law with History and Leadership minors with intentions of ultimately going to law school. All of Lily’s involvement helped her receive a number of scholarships covering all expenses for her education.

So what got her to London? As soon as she left Meridian, she hit the ground running with involvement, she became a part of the Student Government Association, Luckyday Leadership Program, Honors College, Kappa Delta Sorority where she currently serves as the Vice President- Events and Programming, Lambda Sigma Honor Society where she serves as President, Southern Style Orientation Leader, Eagle Connection Tour Guide, and so much more. Through her Honors College Scholarship, she received a stipend to study abroad anywhere of her choice. She thought this was a great opportunity to take her experience in High School and College to navigate a foreign country.

Lily feels best when she has something to do because she enjoys the busy life. It's definitely hard but Collins says, “College is a time of immense opportunity and it would be a waste of time and money to not take every opportunity given to you. Lamar School has given me all of the tools I needed to succeed in college and in life after higher education.”
