Mysterious Moos - Miller Cattle Company

Author: Rachel Mason

Have you ever found yourself standing by the football field during the day when you suddenly hear distant moos? Do you ever wonder what lies beyond the woods next to the bleachers? Miller Cattle Company has been neighbors with Lamar School since 2008 and they are an important part of the livestock business here in Meridian and Marion, Mississippi.

In 2017, Eric Weaver and Moley Herring purchased this old stockyard and were able to rejuvenate the livestock business in Meridian and Marion. Treating their customers like family helps them gain more customers and sell more livestock.

This establishment serves as a stockyard, where they auction off well fed cattle to hopeful buyers. Cattle are fed more nutritious food in hopes that they will be nice and bulky for the next auction. It also serves as a holding area, where cattle can be placed temporarily while their new buyer is on the way to receive them. But do not worry, when you hear these distant moos, they are not cries for help, but cries of joy due to how much food they receive. They have plenty of friends to keep them company and well trained farmers to take care of them. So next time you find yourself at the football field, yell out a loud moo, because who knows, you might get one back!
