The Poet's Corner
The Middle School Book Club, a group of six 7th and 8th graders, meet every Wednesday in the library to discuss books they are reading. They vote on each selection and read the chosen book in just a matter of weeks. When it’s time to discuss the book, they come up with their own questions, ranging from their favorite characters to surprising plot twists. So far, this year, they have read three books: Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, The Screaming Staircase by Jonathan Stroud, and Every Last Word by Tamara Stone. The next book they plan on reading will be Turtles All the Way Down by John Green.
Their recent book, Every Last Word, is about an OCD teenage girl named Caroline who becomes part of a secret club and discovers a new friend group. Just like the middle school book club, Caroline’s club discusses their favorite poems, books, and even inner thoughts. They grow closer through literature and find that they are connected through it, even if they are seen as oddballs or outcasts.
The students in our Middle School Book Club have created a tight bond with one another through this same interest and look forward to Wednesday’s every week! Any 7th or 8th grader who loves to read and chat about books is welcome - it’s not too late to join!
