Wild(flower) About NGSS

The National Green Schools Society is a new club on campus that is environmentally focused. After Lamar’s chapter of the club was started by Ava Durgin last fall, members have taken on a variety of projects. Our past projects include implementing a recycling program and creating environmental posters, and our newest project is an on-campus wildflower garden.

This past August, some members met at the school to prepare the garden area and plant. We used a wildflower mix and expected a bright variety of flowers to bloom. After the wildflower garden, we intend to plant other seeds and try to grow vegetables.

Scroll through the pictures below to follow the progress of our wildflower garden!

After planting, a few weeks passed until the first sprouts appeared.

We watered the garden every morning and patiently waited for more growth.

Finally, about a month after planting, the first few colorful flowers appeared.

Right after the first few flowers emerged, many others popped up.

Now, our garden is packed with a variety of wildflowers!

Pictured are the NGSS members that helped plant the garden.
