Why Upcoming Juniors should apply for Youth Leadership Lauderdale

The Leadership Lauderdale program provides participants an opportunity to enhance their civic knowledge and network. For more than 15 years, this program has helped participants better understand how our community works, build relationships with the area's current and future leaders and become inspired to serve our community. The purpose of Youth Leadership Lauderdale is “To develop and grow leadership characteristics in our youth through interaction with our community leaders, working through The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, and providing volunteer opportunities in our community. By bringing together a diverse group of high school juniors, our goal is to help you develop an understanding of your personal leadership style and community responsibility.”

Lamar Juniors who are in the program

“Youth Leadership Lauderdale is only for Lauderdale juniors. I was accepted to participate this year. I have enjoyed learning how to be a leader and better the community. You meet every third week of every month and while you miss a lot of school work, it is easy to make up because the teachers understand the importance of the program. While you are learning about your community you also get to do a service project with your group. It was a fun experience to learn about all the nonprofitable organizations Meridian has to offer. I think every upcoming junior should apply for the program because it made my year entertaining.” - Annie Monsour

“I applied because Ava Temple told me about it and it really sparked my interest. You get to miss a lot of school because of the monthly meeting on the weekdays. Also you get to meet a lot of new friends within Lauderdale county” - Georgia Collins
